ASB Update Public Spaces Protection Orders - Wirral Area

A PSPO is a provision created by the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing act 2014. It is intended to deal with particular nuisances or problems in a defined area that are considered to be detrimental to the local community’s quality of life.  We worked with Wirral Council to implement four Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) which are now in force in the borough.

Community Champion of the Month

We are blown away by our community champions contribution this month - Agnes Smith, from Govan has opened a food-bank to help families struggling with the cost of living crisis; under her own steam, she brought together a volunteer team of eight retirees to man the food-bank and negotiated with local shops that they would donate items where the shelf life was close to the expiry date.  This is now helping hundreds of needy families in the Govan area.

Food banks in the food charity network provided more than 2.1 million emergency food parcels between 1 April 2021 and 31 March 2022. Of these, 832,000 were for children. This represents an 81% increase compared to the same period five years ago.

If any of our tenants needs help, please call the poverty alliance on 0141 441 4441, or click on the link for your nearest foodbank.

Tennant Engagement Update

It’s been three months since we have launched our tenant engagement portal and already we are seeing a huge increase in the number of tenants and citizens engaging with us on a number of projects and also making a huge difference to our service design in both Repairs & Customer Services.  Keep a look out in your inbox (remember you can ask for SMS / Whats App alerts for new news so you don’t miss anything!).

Before we launched our portal, our engagement was primarily focused around our tenant steering group & open days, with some facebook chats.  This gave us an engagement rate of 0.03% across our tenant base.

By moving to our digital engagement platform, this has increased by 1500% to 45%, and we have built in measures to make sure that inclusivity is measured- we need to make sure that all voices are heard!

GGHA Waterfront Development

The Graving Docks were originally built between 1869 and 1898 and provided ship repair facilities for vessels using the River Clyde to allow them to dry-docked before delivery. Included in the plans is the reopening of Dock No1 for the first time in 40 years for historic ship repairs in partnership with The Docks and Piers Trust.=

GGHA  Graving Dock is to welcome ships again as a £500,000 restoration programme gets under way.

Constructed between 1869 and 1875, Dock 1 at GGHA Graving Docks, which featured in the First World War film 1917, hosted hundreds of ships from across the world until it closed in 1987.=

Now the A-listed dry dock is set to have a new lease of life and will be returned to a fully operational ship repair and maintenance facility by the end of this year.

GGHA Drydock Ltd have secured a licence to operate Govan Graving Dock number one and to bring the facility back to life for use by historic and commercial ships.
